What is ADB for TA 8331 INO? Posted: 06 Nov 2014 06:33 AM PST Introduction The Government of Indonesia on 24 March 2014 has issued the No Objection Letter (NOL) to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for its intention to provide the technical assistance (TA) to the government in developing a project called: Sustainable Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Indonesian's part of Heart of Borneo (HoB); TA 8331 INO. Following the issuance of the NOL, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Forestry assigned Directorate of Ecosystem Services and Conservation Areas (DESCA) to become the Executing Agency of the project. Goal and Output The goal of the project is to assist the government in ensuring the current and future development in HoB   would maintain sustainable use of forest and its biodiversity. There are four main outputs of the activities namely: (a) institutional capacity building for the key agents within the area of HoB including two national parks; Kayan Mentarang and Betung Kerihun National Parks, (b) Implementation of REDD Plus and other ecosystem services at the community levels within the Forest Management Unit (FMU) area, (c) Sustainable financing derived from ecosystem services and (d) producing a lesson learned from the project. Target area The target areas are FMU in west Kalimantan possibly within the District of Kapuas Hulu and FMU in east Kalimantan, possibly in the District of Malinau. The selection of the two districts is subject to further assessments.  Financial support The total available financial support is USD 4,477. 27 million which come from three sources; (a ) Climate Change Fund (USD 1,250 million), (b) Regional Cooperation and Integration Fund (USD 700 thousand) and (c) Global Environmental Facility (USD 2,527.27 million). Project Management The project will be directed by Dr. Bambang Surpriyanto in his capacity as Director of DESCA while in the ADB  the project will be supervised by Mr. P. Ramachandran, Senior Environment Specialist of ADB. On the day to day basis the project will be coordinated by Dr. Tonny Soehartono in his capacity as the consultant for ADB for TA 8331 INO.
