Sustainable Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Heart of Borneo (HoB) of Kalimantan (TA 8331-INO Project) : Trilateral 11th HoB Meeting

In preparation for hosting of the incoming Trilateral 11^th HoB Meeting in Indonesia, to be conducted in Tarakan- North Kalimantan province, the project in support to the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs as the chair of the HoB National Working Group has prepared a series of meeting in Tarakan (February 2017) and in Bogor ( April 2017). In the effort to ensure the sound preparation and to assist the province of North Kalimantan for co-hosting the trilateral event, the Project on 2-3 June has facilitated a coordination meeting in Swiss-Bell Hotel in Tarakan.
The agenda of the meeting were to agree upon the provisional program of the incoming trilateral meeting, update the latest preparation for hosting the event and inspect the options of venue and field trip.
On 2 June 2017, the meeting was officiated by the Head of Provincial Planning Board of North Kalimantan province (Fig. 1) and attended by representatives from various Ministries: Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) and Ministry of Marine and Fishery, relevant provincial and district government officers of North Kalimantan, University of Borneo, Field Coordinator of ADB Project TA 8331-INO and civil society organization such as WWF Indonesia and Pemuda Muhamadyah. The remaining agenda for the first day of the meeting consisted of presentations of preparation and commitment to the trilateral meeting from the province of North Kalimantan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of MoEF and preparation for Visit of HoB 2018 as well as Remarkable Indonesian Fair to be held in Chicago, USA in 22-26 September 2017 (see Report of the Meeting). On the second day participants were guided to visit and observe the proposed location for venue in the University of Borneo in Tarakan.
The meeting was concluded with the following results.
The incoming Trilateral 11^th HoB Meeting will be conducted on 24-26 October 2017 in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, Indonesia. The place and venue for the meeting will be in held in the campus of University of Borneo, Tarakan. The adopted theme for the event is "Promoting Ecotourism in HoB for Sustainable Development: Visit HoB 2018". Provisional program from the meeting will be re-discussed in the next meeting of the HoB National Working Group.
Prior to the trilateral meeting, on 24 October 2017 there will be an experts dialogue meeting on HoB development, expected to be participated by relevant experts on tourisms development, environment and forestry, social economic development and sustainable finance. In addition to that there was a proposal for business or investment meeting for HoB to be held parallel with the experts' dialogue meeting in Tarakan. The agenda for the investment meeting will be discussed soon between the HoB National Working Group and ADB.
The main businesses of the trilateral event will be held on 25 -26 October 2017. The closing will be expected to be done before lunch time on 26 October 2017 and followed by the field trip to a number of tourist and scenic area in Tarakan on the afternoon.
There will be an exhibition on HoB activities and programs during the trilateral meeting. The event hopefully will be participated by National HoB Working Group, WWF Indonesia, DESCA, ADB, GiZ Forclime, North Kalimantan Province, University of Borneo and others. Invitation to participate the exhibition will be released by the National HoB Working Group soon.

Tugas Pokok :

Taman Nasional Laiwangi Wanggameti melakukan penyelenggaraan konservasi sumber daya alam hayati dan ekosistemnya dan pengelolaan kawasan taman nasional berdasarkan peraturan perundang-undangan yang berlaku.

Fungsi :

Taman Nasional Laiwangi Wanggameti dalam melaksanakan tugas pokok, juga menyelenggarakan fungsi:

a. penataan zonasi, penyusunan rencana kegiatan, pemantauan dan evaluasi pengelolaan kawasan taman nasional;

b. pengelolaan kawasan taman nasional;

c. penyidikan, perlindungan, dan pengamanan kawasan taman nasional;

d. pengendalian kebakaran hutan;

e. promosi, informasi konservasi sumberdaya alam hayati dan ekosistemnya;

f. pengembangan bina cinta alam serta penyuluhan konservasi sumberdaya alam hayati dan ekosistemnya;

g. kerja sama pengembangan konservasi sumberdaya alam hayati dan ekosistemnya serta pengembangan kemitraan;

h. pemberdayaan masyarakat sekitar kawasan taman nasional;

i. pengembangan dan pemanfaatan jasa lingkungan dan pariwisata alam;

j. pelaksanaan urusan tata usaha dan rumah tangga.
